What A True Oregonian Understands

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

Being from the Pacific NW [Oregon to be exact] there are things Oregonian's totally get and understand.

Here are [my] top things about being from Oregon.

[1] It rains. A lot. In which case, you probably own several pairs of stylish rain boots - some even designer.  You may even have matching umbrellas [yes, I used the plural meaning - meaning multiple umbrellas you may own].

[2] We take football seriously around here.  We've got the Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers.  You're either one or the other....and it's war come time Fall. The Civil War game in November is one HOT rivalry game. #GoBeavs

[3] Green shops.  I'm talking about marijuana.  Yes, Portland has made marijuana legal in the last year [or so] and we have these 'green shops' on every street corner within the city limits. Can we say "hippies","hipsters"? Ugh. Not only do we have it medically, but recreational as well. #welcometooregon

[4] Two words: VooDoo Doughnuts. People come to Portland just to bring doughnuts home with them.  [I've witnessed the pink boxes of goodness go through airport security lines and shuffled onto the planes]. #itsthepinkbox

[5] COFFEE!  Aside from having the infamous Seattle based Starbucks giant on almost every street corner as well as several Starbucks drive thru's in between, Portland is very well known for coffee - shops, carts, BlackRock, DutchBros...the list goes on.  It's probably the one food group [yes, it's a food group in my book] that is acceptable to have for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

[6] We love our AWD vehicles out here, but Subaru's are a huge hit!  I call them the 'tree hugger' car, but really, they are a totally likable vehicle to us Oregonians. [I do not own one, but I see them everywhere].  I am pretty sure that if the Toyota Prius was AWD, that'd be a favorite vehicle as well for Oregonians.  Helllloo?  Who wouldn't want to sport an AWD hybrid vehicle?!

[7] If you don't own a Subaru, your mode of transportation is most likely a bicycle.  Especially, here in Portland, riding a bike is a preferred mode of transportation - rain, shine, sleet, cloudy - you name it, they ride.  We call them: diehards! #sharetheroad

{we even have a license plate for our cars...}

[8] We recycle. And not just cardboard, I mean everything.  Everything that has the recycle symbol on it. Everything has a bin.  We really care about the Earth. PS. It's so cool to recycle.

[9] Birkenstocks.  Yes, remember these shoes from years, and years ago?  They've made their round again here in the Pacific NW.  Actually, I'm pretty sure, if you've lived her since the beginning of time, these timeless shoes never went out of style.  True Oregon fashion.

[10] Pumping our own gas? Huh? How do you do that?  Here in Oregon, we have gas attendants that pump our gas for us - unless you are pumping diesel.  But it's true, we don't pump our own gas at the station.  However, if we live close to the neighboring states [Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California], you better know how to pump your own gas. I like to think we don't get to pump our own gas because it would be too hard to hold an umbrella and pump gas. #firstworldproblems

And there you have it - all things only Oregonians would fully understand!

Linking up with Karli at Sept. Farm for 10 on Tuesday!

    1. It's great to not have to pump your own gas...except when they take forever to come pump it- pros and cons I guess.

    1. I will say, it is nice to have your gas pumped. it's always weird for me to cross into Washington knowing I have to pump my own. I love the boot and umbrella set too....I haven't mustered up the funds to buy them yet. #someday

    1. Your funny! I will head to head with you on this one - beavers all the way! :) JK, I just like any 'Oregon' team. I'll be honest, I don't have designer boots either...but I've been eyeballing the Hunter or Burberry ones for quite some time.

  8. VooDoo donuts are amazing. I love them. And I bring them home with me on the plane as well. I love that you get your gas pumped in Oregon, but I always forget when I visit.

    1. VooDoo's are pretty amazing! I mean, it's like a Portland legend apparently...so they must be pretty good, especially if people smuggle them on the planes to take back home with them. How often do you come to Oregon to visit?
